There's nothing better than FRIENDS
Now this sentence is going to get confusing, but bear with me: my friends and I (people) are obsessed with FRIENDS (TV show).
And I mean obsessed.
We can quote it word-for-word (entire scenes worth of dialogue – not just a line here or there), still laugh despite knowing every punchline, and have even gone to FRIENDS Trivia (we didn’t win and I don’t want to talk about it). Aren’t they the type of friends (people) you want to have? (Answer: yes.)
The truth is, for some reason greater than my understanding, I was blessed with truly wonderful friends (despite being the kind who can quote entire scenes, but somehow loose trivia – but I’m clearly over it). I’ve known them a long time and they’ve loved me through my worst versions – they’ve loved me when I haven’t loved myself. They’ve been there for the hard stuff, the bad decisions. They’re the type of friends who standby you even when they don’t agree with you. When it hasn’t been my da
Tuesday was International Day of Friendship, today is Girlfriend’s Day and it’s F.R.I.E.N.D.S 25th anniversary so it’s only right that I share why girlfriends are one of life's greatest gifts – naturally accompanied by F.R.I.E.N.D.S gifs.
1. They’ve seen the worst of you – including those atrocious haircuts (and colours)
Through the terrible haircuts, the even worse guys, the can’t-get-out-of-my‒pajama days, when you were a terror to yourself and those around you (or was that just me?) – they’ve seen it ALL. There isn’t anything you can’t tell them, as it’s long past embarrassment. But they’re still here, still love you.
2. They’re the best therapists
When it hasn’t been my day, my week or month, or even my year, my girlfriends can turn it all around. You can tell good friends you feel like the poo-emoji and they don’t mind. They’ll just tell you how to fix your problem/that you’re fabulous/that you need more sleep or have a wine with you (all good solutions). I have friends that listen, that care, that will always be there (poet, I know).
3. They see you for who you truly are – the best bits
Women often see themselves in a harsh and unrealistic light – it’s like we have the opposite of rose-coloured glasses on. True friends see you really are, not the warped version you have of yourself, but the best version. They see the things that make you special, unique, that make you, you – unusual fashion choices and all.
4. They share your happiness as if it was their own
Whether you get that promotion, booked a trip, or fell in love, they’re excited as if it was happening to them.
5. Laughs are always mandatory
Because what is life – and friends (and FRIENDS)– without laughter?
Life’s a rollercoaster, one you can’t predict, but I’m infinitely grateful that I’ll be riding with the truly most fabulous friends. Tell your friends how much you love them – even say it with a F.R.I.E.N.D.S gif.
To my girlfriends, I love you. You’re the type of friends they could write sitcoms about x
